The library keeps approximately 2000 books including monographs, exhibition catalogues, auction’s catalogues, periodicals and essays dedicated to the theme of collecting and to the art of the XX Century. Further than documenting the cultural activity of the organization that hosted the library in its spaces, it keeps a collection of 400 books from the exhibition held at the Lingotto, particularly “Arte Russa e Sovietica” (1989) and “Arte Americana” (1991).
Visitors can choose different ways in order to investigate the social, cultural and economical dynamics that form the phenomena of collecting: they can leaf through a book chosen from the shelves, they can extend their research through connected computer workstation, and in the near future they will be able to consult the database specifically dedicated to the art collection, actually under construction.
The reference library increases its collection thanks to donations and exchanges with artists, private collectors, art dealers, galleries, public and private foundations, cultural institutes and museums.
The Pinacota Agnelli selects new acquisitions following strict criteria:
• Coherence with the collection and the aims of the reference library
• Coherence with the research activity focused on the phenomena of collection in all its historical, cultural, social, economical and artistic aspects.
• Gifts of publications in digital or traditional format are accepted only if they are coherent with the nature and the aims of the reference library and if they can increase and improve the present collection.
Visitors can freely consult the collection, taking the books from the shelves. They can also make bibliographical researches through the two workstations (connected to internet) available in the room, or they can use their own notebook in the dedicated area thanks to a wi-fi connection. The library does not provide loan and reproduction service of the available resources.
